I love learning new tricks and techniques when it comes to web development, scripting and coding – actually, anything in the nerd sciences fields! In this post, I thoughts I’d share a few links that I found extremely helpful in teaching myself how to code certain features and how to validate code, and more. So below is a small list of some sites that you should visit if you have an interest in HTML, W3C, Google developments and Microsoft developments.
I will start with WordPress, as my blog sits nicely on a WordPress application. WordPress.org is the place to go to sign up and have your piece of cyberspace! And its free! The other option is to sign up with a webhost and install a wordpress package on your server space. Pros and cons for both scenarios which I will let you look into.
Next, lets look at getting some more software to play with. Microsoft.com has a lot of kool programs to download and experiment with including Visual Studio. Also, if you are a student, check out Dreamspark.com. This offers some great links and blogs to go to that you can access heaps of information on coding, applications and the Microsoft frameworks. It also offers downloads of some of Microsoft’s greatest products free for students, including, Windows Server, Visual Studio, VirtualPC, Robotics Development, WindowsPhone, and Visual Basic.
To develop a website or modify an existing one, another option from Microsoft is their Webmatrix application which
allows you to use Open Source programs, Built in Web Templates or write your own code. I think this is pretty koool, and it also includes WordPress templates that you can then upload to your current site. Nice!
Interested in Google’s products like Android, ChromiumOS, and more? Well you need to navigate over to code.google.com and stay up to date with the latest developments and coding breakthroughs.
There are a heap more great sites to help you code and learn funky new things. One of the greats is w3schools.com with pages full of tutorials and examples to go through! This is one of the most thorough learning sites for a wide variety of languages including HTML and CSS, JavaScript and XML. Definitely check that one out!
To check your HTML code, goto http://validator.w3.org/ which will let you enter an IP or URL to check your code and links. Quite handy.
W3C which is the World Wide Web Consortium looks at making the web a friendlier place with better code, browser compatibility, rich multimedia and accessibility being their priorities. You may have heard of HTML5 being thrown about. Learn more about them at their site www.w3.org.
Another awesome resource is web-source.net. There are HTML code examples for fonts, tables, forms and more as well as safe colour charts and articles about HTML. I have used this resource plenty of times and recommend it. The colour chart is definitely an awesome resource!
If you are just starting out in programming, Microsoft have a site that may guide you on the right track. Check it out here. Just don’t get caught up in Microsoft trying to push their own products or framework.
And for now, two more links to check out for some further HTML coding tips and techniques:
htmlhelp.com and freeprogrammingresources.com
Hope you get some use out of these sites as I have over the years. If you have any to add that you found useful and would like to share, feel free to add them in the comments section below.
Above all else, have fun with your coding and web development. Make mistakes, its a way you learn, as well as ask questions on blogs and FAQ sites. CODE AWAY!!! Dave out.
