What shape is the future of computing? Small and Square or invisible?

We have come along way from a single computer taking up a full room, and even from the 486 beasts! Lets face it, my mobile phone can do more than either of those devices, and even whilst in a moving vehicle. Technology has come along way, hoping the cancer research does too. But what will be in store for us over the next year or two?

My opinion is that tablet and mobile computing will be dominant as well as lite operating systems such as Google’s Android and ChromeOS. Apple have made big ground in the last year with sales of the iPhone skyrocketing along with the newly released iPad tablets. Blackberry maker RIM are concentrating on what they do best with their business products. I believe a major advantage all players in this field have is development of their applications is being made all around the globe. I am sure every minute that passes means another application is created for the iPhone or iPad, most banks and organisations have come on board and seen mobile access is essential to their success.

So, what will be next after these devices? The computer has become smaller and mobile, will they remain the same for a while, or will we find ecologically sound creations that run on sunlight and connect to our central nervous systems being sold for next to nothing?! I don’t know, but I do hope they discover the fountain of life or atleast a way of preserving me so that I can see these history-making inventions take flight into this world! I’m with Sheldon on this one!
